About Us: History

Utility Telecom Consulting Group opened its doors for business in late 1994.  Founded by George Stoll and Nicholas Thomas, the two saw a need for high quality telecommunications consulting services to the utility and energy industries.

Mr. Thomas and Mr. Stoll formerly worked for utilities in their telecommunications and information technology departments.  Immediately prior to launching their new consulting business, the two were managers at Public Service Company of Colorado (now Xcel Energy).  Corporate reorganization provided a golden opportunity to re-evaluate their future prospect with Public Service and the two decided it was time for a new beginning, leaving the utility and founding Utility Telecom Consulting Group, Inc.

The two brought more than forty years of radio, microwave and fiber optic network engineering experience to the start-up consultancy.  Capitalizing on their numerous industry contacts, the business got off to a quick and successful start.  The business grew as they took a conservative and conscientious approach to their work product and client relations.  Working as independent consultants over the years with no alliance or partnership with any vendor, manufacturer, supplier, or service provider, they slowly added professional staff, partners and an impressive list of satisfied clients.

Originally, the firm had a small staff based in the Denver area.  Now there are Utility Telecom professional staff members based in New Mexico and Nevada. Along with the Colorado team, they all travel to the clients’ locations to support their projects.

After more than a decade of providing consulting services to the industry, the firm continues to support many of its original clients – a testimony to the quality of work and careful attention to client needs, while looking forward to an exciting and successful future.
